The Shack Cafe in Steamboat Springs

I have been frequently this place to The Last 5 years which pains me to leave a bad review. Last time I was in I had bad service that turned worse. Long story short I left 15% tip on a ticket because of the poor service. About a week later I notice my card was charged 50% for that same ticket? This place stole from us. Will not return.

I love the Shack. I take my son here to get a Micky Mouse pancake and eggs. I always get something different but love the chicken fried steak and eggs. The staff is great and have local knowledge. I would say it is authentic Steamboat.

Lunch here cost me half a day of skiing due to food poisoning.

One of my favorites. Food is reasonably priced and service is great. A locals place.

My family has never complained more about a place than this one. Food was cold, items missed, waited an hour for basic foods. My daughter actually said it was the worst french toast she'd eaten. I think their only saving grace was a decent burger and a nice waitress.

Decided to give it a try and wish I didn't. Hashbrowns were burnt, biscuits were cold and tasted like burnt Hashbrowns, gravy was runny and bland, took two tries to get a hamburger cooked correctly and then my fries were cold after being returned to the kitchen and then brought back out to me. The waitress that waited on me was nice however the young female that I rang me up was rude, unproffesional and have lots of attitude. I will not be back. Giving me excuses about new employees doesn't cut it. Telling a blind disabled veteran that he was basically lying about how his food tasted was over the top horrible customer service.

First time trying out The shack Cafe as we are visiting Steamboat. Giving 5 stars as I highly recommend trying this cafe out. I ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich and it was so delicious. Staff was extremely kind and friendly. Also Dog friendly on outside patio. They even brought our dog his own water dish. Thank you for the pleasant lunch experience.

Very pleasant and clean. A small cafe with a great vibe. Excellent service, our food was at our table within 10 minutes tops and the staff were extremely friendly and on top of the lunch rush. Great place!

A very busy tourist spot for sure! And still the servers kept their cool and offered terrific service! The food was fresh and tasty. A very diverse menu. I had the fish and chips and I enjoyed it very much.

Everything about this place was "meh". I had the chicken fried steak with eggs and hash browns. It didn't taste like anything had salt, and so was very bland. The hash browns were still partially raw. The biggest disappointment was the cinnamon roll. It was about as bland and boring as possible. No cinnamon, no sugar, and the frosting was...weird. Funny texture, not very sweet, and an odd flavor. Service was decent, but overall not something I would do again.

We ordered a cheeseburger and a Avocado Burger and a bowl of fresh fruit for our one year old and the fruit could not have been fresher. Our meals were cooked to perfection. We can't wait to go back.

Had the fried halibut and it was pretty good! We will be back.

We stopped in for breakfast this morning. Funny & friendly waitress. The man who brings the water and coffee was so happy. Instantly put us in a good mood. The food was good and the portions were big.

Flew into Steamboat from Longmont for brunch with my mom and and friend. First place we tried had a 1 h wait. No wait at The Shack. Cozy and warm for winter brunch. I had BLT, mom had biscuits and gravy, friend had Monte Cristo. All delicious.

The pancakes at this place are amazing. We begged for the recipe but with no luck. Teriyaki mushroom burger was also very good.

This place was amazing!!! We came in for breakfast and it was delicious! The place was clean and they only let a certain amount of people in at a time. Definitely coming back!!!!!

Very cool little place! I had chili and a side salad and both were very good, the chili had a little kick to it! The place is very clean, our waitress was nice and the prices aren't bad!

Great coffee and friendly atmosphere

Good breakfast on the main drag in Steamboat. Food was good. Coffee not so much.

First, staff was great. Friendly, attentive, responsive. The breakfast though was about as poor as I have had... ever... anywhere. I had the Huevos Rancheros. It was a bit shocking when it came out. I've never seen Huevos look so unappealing. The could pico de gallo thrown on top did not help. The bread that came with it (perhaps that should have been a red flag... bread with Huevos??) was dry. I had to ask for butter and they only had the packets of butter from the fridge, which means they are cold and solid and can't be spread without tearing up the bread. The chocolate milk was milk. I think they may have set it next to some chololate syrup and thought nature just might take care of it. It should be noted that the atmosphere is good and, as I mentioned, the staff was great. Given the other reviews, perhaps it is just breakfast that is bad, or perhaps just the Huevos. However, my experience had the food being epic-ly bad.

The waffles were awesome. It is a simple diner atmosphere, which is hard to find in this day and age. I will definitely eat here again😀
